Norman V. Kay Saturday, September 27, 1930 - Sunday, May 7, 2017
Born in Toledo, Ohio, with twin sister Barbara to parents Valentine and Mary Ann. Norm graduated from Central High School in 1948 and The University of Toledo in 1953 with a Degree in Accounting and Marketing. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. He enjoyed sports: bowling, golf and was a member of The Ski Club. His career began with Kaiser Jeep at Willys Motor, Toledo in the Accounting Department. In 1964, he met Mary Ann at a party, and when he transferred to Oakland, Kaiser Center, he asked her to marry him. They wed in San Francisco, with their friend Bill Pierson as Best Man. They honeymooned in Hawaii, and upon their return, briefly stayed with Bill in Oakland before moving to Moraga in 1965. In 1966 they moved to Walnut Creek. Norm, in the International Department, traveled to South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. Mary Ann's mother, Kathryn Dunlap, joined the family when Mary Ann's brother Charles Dunlap died in an auto accident in Los Angles where he was living. Joanne joined the family when her mother died. Norm's brother Tom became ill and passed away. When Kaiser Jeep was sold to American Motors in 1970, Norm turned down a transfer and joined Kaiser Cement until his retirement in 1988 as Assistant Controller. During the years Norm and Mary Ann went on 5 cruises, trips to England, Scotland, Wales, Switzerland and Italy. Plus many trips to Hawaii. They owned 3 Lawrence Welk Time Shares, using them and exchanging for various locations. They visited Florida, Texas, Arizona and Ohio for vacations, weddings and reunions. They lost fathers, mothers, brothers and tragically Christine. After Norm retired in 1988, he joined Sirs Branch 116, enjoying golf and new friends. He is a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was an Assistant Treasurer and helped with food to the Homeless Shelter. He is survived his wife Mary Ann, twin Barbara (Dick) Kaczanowski, sister Beverly Walczak, nephews Allan Bryan (Ashley) Brandon, nieces Debbie Grace, Karen, Katie, Kelly, Madonna and Holly. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, May 27th at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1924 Trinity Ave, Walnut Creek, CA 94596. Interment will take place at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.
