Gayle L. Kertel Tuesday, September 24, 1963 - Friday, March 17, 2017
Gayle passed away peacefully at home with her family after an extended illness. She was 53. Gayle was born in Canton, Ohio to Richard and Georgia Sleighter and was a 1981 graduate of Marlington High School. She and her sister moved to California in 1985 where she later earned a BS in Management at Golden Gate University. Gayle and Shawn (also Marlington ’81) reconnected at their 10-yr reunion, married and settled in Walnut Creek and raised their three children. For 15 years, Gayle held several positions at PG&E in gas transportation prior to opening Papa Murphy’s Pizza in Alamo with Shawn in 1999. In 2003 she became a stay-at-home mom, which was by far her favorite occupation. Despite being ill, Gayle was actively involved at NorthCreek Church, serving in several ministries, to include Day Camp and The Story annual events. Additionally, she greatly enjoyed the fellowship and warmth of her Moms-In-Touch group. Gayle was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, Richard. She is survived by husband Shawn, children Morgan, Olivia and Noah, sister Tammy (Jim) Gard, Aunt Becky (Peter) Tewes, nephews Danny Gard and Dustin (Jamie) White, niece Katie Gard, in-law’s Stanley and Judy Kertel, Michele Mayle, Brent Kertel and Melissa Kertel, and many cousins. A memorial service to celebrate her life and impact will be held at 11:00 AM on April 1, 2017 at NorthCreek Church in Walnut Creek, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gayle’s name to Samaritan’s Purse (http://sampur.se/2n9xJK7).
